Konopiště Open – why we do it

It costs us a lot of energy and money but we still do it. Konopiště Open, from Czech Championships to PDGA Major. In this article you will get to know what drives us forwards.

You can say that it’s like puzzle. We have big plans for Czech discgolf and we gradually make them happend. To make discgolf a sport with big S, it needs to have everything. Enough of high quality short and long courses recreational and competitive players, local, national and world class tournaments, it’s own stars and ambassadors as well as enough stores with discgolf goods and a lot of other things. We can directly influence some of these things and some of them we can not. However professional tournaments belong to the category that we can influence.

Football has it’s World Championships, gold has it’s Masters. A lot of sports are on the Olympics. This helps these sports get recognized by new people, create fans and gets people inspired . Even discgolf couldn’t exist without professionals that hold and play tournaments. Yes, the magic of our sport is that it can be played with very cheap equipment, together with your family. But there are others who make living out of discgolf. Everyone who decides so, can grow infinitely in this sport from throwing an advertising frisbee to the trees to winning World’s or Konopiště Open.

The local tournaments are as important as world class tournaments. We simply push forwards thanks to them. Our discgolf country, company, we as individuals and players Everyone plays his role. And what do we achieve by organizing Konopiště Open?

• The top of world’s discgolf comes to tiny Czech republic and spend a week here, inspiring countless players. Discgolf tourism begins to come into reality.
• Discgolf gets into newspapers, TV news and we address thousands of new people that don’t know discgolf is a real sport. Prize money at Konopiště reaches almost 1 milion crowns, and many people make a living out of playing discgolf.
• The best Czech players get to play with wold’s best players. This takes Czech discgolf to the next level .
• We remind Czech tournament organizers that with passion and love for this sport everything is possible. Konopiště was first held 6 years ago as a Czech national Championships in which 54 players participated. Winners received a bottle of champagne wine, chocolate and a wooden disc. This year we have a PDGA Major, one of the three most prestigious tournaments of this year, 312 players, and the winner takes almost 200 000 Kč. #skyisthelimit
• Thousands of players across the whole world now know names of Konopiště and Czech republic.

Of course that there are many other reasons, but these are the most important ones. Tournament has a budget of almost 2 milion crowns and we took 700 thousand on starting fees. So this is not about money. It is because we love discgolf and we will do anything to make more people love it too. To make them understand why we have all that love and positive words for it.
