Czech Championship 2019 – Surprise In Hostačov

Will Lukáš Filandr defend his title or will he be surpassed by Czech discgolf “number one” Bohdan Bílek? Or maybe the leading player of 1. DGL Michael Rádl? Local favorite Jakub Semerád, or possibly by a hero of last few tournaments Jakub Knápek? No. Neither of them.

But lets start from the beginning. Tournament at Hostačov could not be possible without the incredible support of our partners – in the first place Hotel Chateau Hostačov, which prepared course into incredible and beautiful shape and took care of all visitors with great effort . Next is Finish discgolf brand Discmania, that provided discs for players packs, Czech discgolf association, that donated 20 000 CZK in prize money for best players, DiscGolfPark Czech republic, thanks to which the course at Hostačov exists.

Training and challenge

Tournament started on Friday with official training day. True, some players arrived on Thursday afternoon but most players arrived during Friday. The course was prepared to a spectacular level and minor modifications (mainly adding OB and pushing some baskets a little further from tees) asked for respect from the players. The tournament is planned for 3 rounds of 18 holes and a finals with 9 holes for the best 5 players of each category(MPO, FPO, MP40, MP50, MJ18 a MJ15).

But another event was scheduled for Fridays 18:00. It was the challenge of Czech discgolf association. Players of tournament could sign up for this event on facebook and have an opportunity to play against our national team. This idea gained so much interrest that it was necessary to draw the lucky winners .

National team played in this composition:
MPO 1 – Bohdan Bílek
MPO 2 – Lukáš Filandr
MPO 3 – Matěj Vojtík
FPO – Eva Bínová
MP40 – Rudolf Konečný
MJ18 – Jakub Dostál
Challenger team played in this composition:
MPO 1 – František Trenz
MPO 2 – Tomáš Hovorka
MPO 3 – Jan Pajurek
FPO – Martina Vajdová
MP40 – Martin Zdráhal
MJ18 – Martin Štípek

Photos from this event can be watched in this facebook gallery. The national team won, final score was 7-1. The only point was won by František Trenz against Bohdan Bílek, he mannaged to play a draw with him.

This was followed by an opening ceremony with Czech national anthem a speech by the chairman of the Czech discgolf association and players received their player packs.

First round, first ace

The weather was beautiful, almost tropical. In short it was terribly hot with almost no wind. It was notable on players scores and mood. The hero of first round was for sure Michal Grepl, who scores an ace on hole number 12 with his Star Gator took the whole three thousand acepool for that round.

And as if it wasn´t enough he also took CTP for first round on hole number 18.

However, other players fought their way in to top 5 of the main category. Jakub Knápek with a strong start and score of -10, chased by local Jakub Semerád (-8),followed by Tomáš Redlich, František Trenz and Daniel Konečný all with score of -7. Favorites Rádl and Filandr however, were not far away. In FPO the lead after first round was taken by champion of Czech Rep. 2017 Eva Bínová (formerly Králová) with score of +3, closely followed by Eliška Bártková (champion of Czech rep. 2018) and Jarmila Havířová (champion of Czech rep. from previous years). In category MP40 were all favorites outplayed by Tomáš Dostál with very nice score of -3, chased by Daniel Večeř with -1. Other players were on par or worse. In category MP50 Karel Kolář led with score of +2. In the least numerous category of MJ18 it was Šimon Galia with score of -3 and in the youngest category it was Petr Striegler with score of -4.

Second round, no ace

After lunch break the wind picked up a little but it wasnt too bad. If the hero of the first round was Michal Grepl, in the second round it was Daniel Konečný. For the whole round he kept pace with leader Jakub Knápek to take the lead of second round on the last holes, he played one stroke lower and came into 2 stroke distance from the lead. His score was -9 (total -16). But Jakub Knápek did not stay idle and even without an ace played great round with rating above 1000 -8 (total -18). Top three was closed by Jakub Semerád with total score of -15, followed by František Trenz (-14) and Jakub Kudrna (-10). In FPO the biggest bombs were thrown by Jarmila Havířová,who was -4 after 6 holes and played +2 for that round, which took her to the first place of FPO, three strokes away from Eva Bínová and Eliška Bártková. In MP40 Tomáš Dostál played the best round of this category again, and increased his lead to 4 strokes in front of Rudolf Konečný and third Marek Šrom. In MP50 the lead was taken by Jozef Čierny (one stroke in front of Karel Kolář), in MJ18 Šimon Galia was still the leader with one stroke lead and in MJ15 Petr Striegler led with 7 strokes to Matyáš Bareš.

Saturday night afternoon was followed by a trading night where players had an opportunity to trade with other players the discs they dont throw/down need. This was accompanied by putting contest which was won by Šimon Galia from Nový Jičín.

Third round, second ace

Saturday was maybe even hotter than Sunday and it was noticeable on the performance of players in first flight. František Trenz suffered and played a +1 for the round, which took him off the finals) even Jakub Knápek (-4 for the round, which took him to second place). But the hero of this round remains the same. Daniel Konečný. He didnt play super strong, like on Sunday, but on last hole he threw an ace, took CTP and scored a -7 for that round (total of -23). Placed first over second Knápek with one stroke lead and two strokes over Semerád. Joined for the finals top five by Bohdan Bílek (thanks to best score of third round of -9) and Jakub Kudrna. In FPO category Eva Bínová started with one stroke lead over Jarmila Havířová, followed by Eliška Bártková, Veronika Fabíková and Nikola Moravcová. In MP40 Tomáš Dostál shined again with score of -7, which helped him to build big lead and play the finals with calm nerves. MP50 was dominated again by Jozef Čierny again with score of +2 with a 3 stroke lead over Karel Kolář. Followed by Pavel Marišinec, Pavel Votický and Radek Čižmař for finals. In MJ18 category the situation dramatized with Galias teammate from Nový Jičín Jakub Dostál taking the lead by 1 stroke. In MJ15 Petr Striegler was first with a very nice lead of 6 strokes.

Grand finals

5 top players of MPO, 5 top players of FPO, 5 top players of MP40, 5 top players of MP50, 3 top players of MJ18 and 5 top players of MJ15. Those set off one by one to a nine hole finals (1-9). We give the biggest tribute to Dan Konečný, who was in a lead of big tournament for the first time of his career, and with only one stroke lead over multiple champion of Czech rep. Jakub Knápek. He took the only birdie right on the first hole, on the second hole he parked half a meter from the pin, took an easy par on treacherous hole number three, fourth hole birdie again and the same on five. He didnt mean to slow down and he did not. With an ice cold blood this player from Moravský Krumlov came for the title of The Champion of Czech Republic in MPO category! Congratulations! He was joined by Jakub Knápek (2nd) and Jakub Semerád (3rd) on the podium.

Eva Bínová(proDiscgolf.cz Albatros Team) showed the best perfomance in women category with her best round and score of 31 which is very solid. Second Jarmila Havířová was outplayed by unbeliavable 7 strokes per round (8 in total). Joined on the podium by Eliška Bártková.

In category MP40 there as a fight for second place as first place was firmly in hands of Tomáš Dostál (DGC Bazarmix). Second place was finally won by Daniel Večeř over Rudolf Konečný.

in MP50 category Jozef Čierny won with 5 stroke lead, but the title of Champion of Czech Republic was taken by Czech Karel Kolář, Pavel Marišinec was one stroke behind him and Pavel Votický one more stroke behind him.

The biggest drama took place in MJ18 category. Šimonu Galiovi mannaged to tie with Jakub Dostál and after 9 holes finale they needed a throw-off to determine the winner. Who was at the end Jakub Dostál (Moravian Gators Nový Jičín) and took a well deserved victory. Petr Mrázek finished third.

In the youngest category Petr Striegler from DGC Moravský Krumlov and proDiscgolf.cz Albatros Teamu shined again – he won win a 9 stroke lead over second Matyáš Bareš. Another three strokes behind him was Martin Štípek.
